Nachdem David Lindley<\/a>, der US-amerikanische Multiinstrumentalisten und S\u00e4nger, von 1966 bis 1970 in der Band Kaleidoscope<\/a> gespielt hatte, treffen wir ihn von 1971 bis 1980 als Gitarrist der Band von Jackson Browne<\/a> wieder. Lindleys Spiel auf der Steel-Gitarre war ein pr\u00e4gendes Stilelement dieser Band. Danach gr\u00fcndete er seine eigene Band El Rayo-X.<\/p>\n

DAVID LINDLEY und seine Band werden eigens f\u00fcr ihren Auftritt beim ROCKPALAST Open-Air-Festival auf der Loreley aus Los Angeles anreisen. Es wird der einzige Auftritt von DAVID LINDLEY in diesem Jahr in Europa sein. LINDLEY ist Amerikaner und erst seit etwas mehr als einem Jahr unter eigenem Namen unterwegs: Dennoch ist er zumindest f\u00fcr die Kenner der Musik der amerikanischen Westk\u00fcste ein alter Bekannter; vor allem durch seine langj\u00e4hrige Arbeit als Gitarrist von Jackson Browne. Dar\u00fcber hinaus hat er mit fast allen gespielt: Crosby And Nash, Linda Ronstadt oder Ry Cooder sind nur drei Namen. DAVID LINDLEY’S Laufbahn hat vier Abschnitte: Als 14j\u00e4hriger begann er, \u00fcber das Nachspielen von Rock’n’Roll-Singles, seine Gitarrenkenntnisse zu erwerben. Anfang der 60er Jahre wandte er sich der akustischen Folkmusik zu, spielte in Cafes und Bars. Gegen 1965 gr\u00fcndete er die Kultband „Kaleidoscope“, mit der er eine „musikalische Synthese aller Musikrichtungen“ verwirklichen wollte. N\u00e4chster Schritt war seine Zusammenarbeit mit Jackson Browne, dessen Platten und Konzerte ohne diesen eigenartigen Klang von DAVID LINDLEY’S elektrischer Steel-Gitarre bei weitem nicht so erkennbar w\u00e4ren.<\/p>\n

Bislang letzte Station (1982) ist f\u00fcr DAVID LINDLEY seine eigene Band, mit der er auch im November 1981 beim ROCKPALAST-Konzert im Metropol in Berlin vor einem begeisterten Publikum auftrat. LINDLEY pr\u00e4sentierte in einem fast 2st\u00fcndigen Konzert die ganze Vielfalt seines musikalischen K\u00f6nnens: Als Gitarrist, als Steel-Gitarrist, als Violinist, mit Mandolinengitarre und hawaiianischem Sechs-Saiteninstrument, nicht zuletzt als S\u00e4nger. Die Musiker seiner Band unterst\u00fctzten ihn optimal, sowohl mit ihren Instrumenten als auch als S\u00e4nger. Ein Ausschnitt aus diesem Konzert – der „Mercury Blues“ – erregte beim zehnten ROCKPALAST-Festival allgemein gro\u00dfes Aufsehen: Zum einen waren alle vom K\u00f6nnen dieser Band sehr beeindruckt, zum anderen war es eben deshalb doppelt schade, da\u00df auch im zweiten Anlauf die Technik den Genu\u00df der ganzen Nummer vereitelte. – Das wird am 28. August sicher nicht passieren.<\/p>\n

David Lindley and his band are also flying in from Los Angeles just for their appearance at the Rockpalast Open Air Festival at the Loreley. It will be David Lindley’s only appearance in Europe this year. Lindley is an American and has been on the road under his own name for a little more than a year: Nevertheless, at least for the people on the American west coast that know their music, he has been well- known for a while, particularly because of his long-time work as a guitarist for Jackson Browne. On top of that, he’s played with almost everyone: Crosby and Nash, Linda Ronstadt and Ry Cooder are only three names.<\/p>\n

David Lindley’s career can be divided into four parts: As a fourteen-year old, he began to acquire knowledge of the guitar by copying rock’n’roll singles. In the early ’60s, he changed over to acoustic folk music and played in cafes and bars. Around 1965, he formed the cult band ‚Kaleidoscope‘ , with which he wanted to create a „musical synthesis of all music styles“. The next step was working together with Jackson Browne, whose records and concerts wouldn’t be so well-known without the unique sound of David Lindley’s electric steel guitar.<\/p>\n

The last station (1982) for David Lindley, until now, is his own band, with whom he also appeared to an enthusiastic audience in November, 1981, at the Rockpalast Concert in the Metropol in Berlin. In an almost two-hour long concert, Lindley presents the whole range of his musical abilities: As a guitarist, as a steel-guitarist, as a violinist, with the mandolin guitar and the Hawaiian ukulele, and, of course, as a singer.<\/p>\n

The musicians of his band give him optimum support, as singers as well as with their instruments. A cut from this concert, the ‚Mercury Blues‘, caused a great sensation at the 10th Rockpalast Festival: On the one hand, everyone was very impressed with the abilities of this band, and on the other, it was twice as sad that during the second attempt, the high tech messed up the enjoyment of the whole number.<\/p>\n

That will surely not happen on August 28th. „David Lindley became a term in all of Europe with his appearance at the Rockpalast. Later, he was able to play in sold-out concert halls. A full-blooded musician who was also able to put 17,000 fans under his spell, with his acoustic pieces.“<\/p>\n
